The Rekindling of Love

So do you have those moments where something that you used to love and cherish so much, and received so much joy from, and maybe temporarily got left behind (non intentional of course) suddenly comes rushing back into your life?

I know what you are thinking, this is about to turn into a deep, sappy, mushy-gushy love story. And you'd be right. Except not the kind that you might think. Write this date down, January 26, 2011, I have officially started my relationship with the Cold War Kids again! I downloaded their new album Mine Is Yours and have not been able to stop listening to it. I suggest all, before you continue to read this, either run to your nearest Target, Best Buy, Borders, Amazon.com, iTunes...whatever your means to getting music is, and if nothing else at least give it a listen, to truly appreciate my relationship with them. I'll wait...

OK, your back? Now most of us I'm sure have felt the way that Hang Me Up to Dry describes, whether you were the "teaser" or the "teasee". With its oh so smooth and creamy riff, and the way Nathan's voice at the most pivotal points is just almost a scream. How could you NOT get this song stuck in your head? Hospital Beds was one of their better songs from their debut. Then there was Something Is Not Right With Me, need I say more? I feel this song. It. Speaks. To. Me. 'nuff said. And then there was Audience, which tells you that it's up you to make yourself happy, " close your eyes, put your finger on the globe, spin it round and where it stops you got to pack your bags and go." It's a good motto for life.

Now, they have a new album. The first song is Mine Is Yours, and your hooked. And then by the second song, Finally Begin, your in love. With a line like "I've got a black belt in doubt, I get claustrophobic with all these open doors", how can you not get lost in a moment that will last 3 minutes and 42 seconds? Then it continues with Louder Than Ever, which solidifies that Cold War Kids are better than ever! Skip The Charades is quite possibly one of the best songs I have ever heard. The lyrics are in a word-phenomenal. Sensitive Kid, Broken Open and Royal Blue are also equally brilliant.

I'm so sorry Cold War Kids for letting such a big amount of time lapse between "meet ups" with you. Kudos to you, because with your latest masterpiece I promise to be lost in your world, and go for long swims in your effortless melodies, and bask in the rays of your honest and beautiful lyrics for a long time to come......
